1914 Lawrence Semon Frank Chance postcard. SGC 1, one of only three graded by them. This example with the very rare printed Red text at the top. Also of note is the added red lines to the caricature portrait. Judging by the grade and condition of the postcard, we believe SGC thought this red to be added to the card. Ourselves and others have examined this piece and it cannot be decided conclusively whether the red is original to the card or added after the fact. It is the exact same color as the text and would make sense from a cartoonist that Semon was to further embellish the subject he was portraying. No other image of a Chance with the red text lines can be found to see if another might have the same facial lines, the mystery remains unsolved. No creases, 1915 penned on the back line the Marquard. The catalog's date this issue by the text on the front. It's possible that 1915 was the actual year of issue or just when the original owner acquired the postcard.
